Job Description

Harris House seeks a transformational, innovative, and inspirational leader to serve as its President and Chief Operating Officer (President and COO). This is a newly created role and a career-defining opportunity at one of the country’s premier, private, non-profit organizations committed to helping people who suffer from alcoholism and drug addiction.

By following a philosophy of responsible recovery, Harris House, based in St. Charles, Missouri (part of the Metropolitan St. Louis area), has helped people overcome alcohol and drug addiction for more than 50 years. Their doors are always open to those willing to take the first step toward a lifetime of active healing.

The President and COO is an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and she/he will report to the Harris House Chief Executive Officer, Tom Wickenhauser, work collaboratively with the SLT and be a potential succession-ready executive.

The President and COO will be a hands-on, results achieving and problem-solving executive who thinks innovatively and independently to achieve difficult results. She/he will be a strategically astute executive who provides leadership that will enhance strong operational and financial performance, exceptional teamwork and quality care, as well as growth in programs for Harris House. This will require an experienced operational leader who appreciates the nexus between strategy and operations, and who can effectively translate and execute, helping provide clear direction and performance goals to Harris House, its leaders and the clinical staff. The President and COO will have extensive experience overseeing administrative and support service operations, as well as clinical operations in a health system environment, ideally in an addiction treatment/recovery and/or behavioral health organization. An executive with extensive board interaction is preferred, and experience with philanthropy will be beneficial. We seek individuals with strong emotional and social intelligence who have demonstrated an ability to connect with individuals in a meaningful way at all levels of an organization.

Formal education at the Master’s level in business administration, health care administration, the management or related field, or an equal combination of education and experience is required. Candidates with clinical backgrounds are also encouraged to apply if they meet the criteria for the role and have the appropriate expanse of operational leadership experience.
